[MINDSET]
A mindset refers to a person's state of mind that determines how they interpret and react to the world around them. Each individual has their own unique set of ideals and beliefs that they uphold, however, depending on those beliefs, a person's mindset can be grouped into one of two categories. The first category consists of those who have a fixed mindset. People in this category believe their basic qualities, such as intelligence and talent, are fixed traits. Instead of developing their skills, these individuals tend to spend more time documenting them. Many people with fixed mindsets hold the belief that talent alone creates success. In juxtaposition there are also those with growth mindsets whom hold the belief that their skills can be further developed through dedication and hard work. This view typically creates a desire to learn and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. These mindsets are not limited to one's growth and stagnation of skills but can also influence how a person can handle a situation. Whether they choose to change their approach depending on the situation or if they choose to remain constant throughout.
In the game Spec Ops: The Line, there is a wide variety of different characters with their own unique backgrounds. The three "protagonists" of Delta Force, Captain Martin Walker, Lieutenant Alphanso Adams, and Sergeant John Lugo all hold their own ideas and opinions of the mission throughout the course of the game. Each of the characters' mindsets are unique and dynamic as they transform from common cliches into completely different people.

Captain Martin Walker: "Our mission went from recon to rescue the minute we found US soldiers butchered."
Captain Walker is the leader of Delta Force and the player-character. In the beginning it is mentioned that he was rescued by John Konrad, the main antagonist of the game. His opinion of Konrad influences many of his actions and causes him to fixate on the mission rather than the situation. The player is able to guide him through some of his decisions to influence how his character is affected. Unfortunately, many of the choices are morally ambiguous and have no right answer. Walker always tries to justify his/the player's actions despite the consequences. The mindset of Walker is largely dependent on the player.

Lieutenant Alphanso Adams: "Only thing that matters are the words 'Mission Accomplished.' The sooner I hear those words, the sooner I can go home and get back to being me."
Lieutenant Adams serves as the closest thing to the "voice of reason". He holds his own opinions but is able to go along with the decisions Captain Walker makes. Near the beginning, he shows a fixed mindset, never wanting to deviate from the Captain's orders, however, near the end, his own repressed feelings begin to surface and he begins to act on his own showing somewhat of a growth mindset.

Sergeant John Lugo: "Sure, I speak six languages. Gimme a broken radio and a paperclip, and I'm MacGuyver. I can deadeye a squirrel at 2000 meters. And, to top it all off, I'm the sexiest thing ever poured into a pair of ACUs."
Sergeant Lugo exists to contradict and disagree with whatever choice the player chooses to make. Constantly reminding players of the consequences of their decisions and the ramifications they may have. Lugo is confident in his abilities as a sniper but is the first to falter with the increasing stressfulness of the situation showing a fixed mindset.
