[PERCEPTION]
After the horrible events that occurred earlier on in the game, the characters' perceptions, or view the world, begins to change. The harsh brown of the desert begins to disappear as the character's perceptions start to become more surreal in relation to their waning sanity. This keeps the city of Dubai interesting and fresh through the duration of the game. In short, Spec Ops...
This cleverly shows the characters' descent into madness. Sometimes the environment will switch into beautiful aquarium blues or strong fiery reds and even green phosphorous decay. It's a beautiful, yet disturbing world to explore. Cut-scenes also demonstrate this decreasing perception of reality, scenes that end in a black screen happened in the reality of the game while scenes that end in white represent an illusion or vision that the character has had. You're left questioning and trying to make sense of the events that transpired.
Despite reality or delusion, the game always has the player descending from the beginning of each level. It is a gimmick that is often overlooked but it effectively symbolizes and captures the characters' perceptions and tone of the game. The world becomes more surreal the more the player descends into the ruins of Dubai. How the player perceives and interprets the world is an important part of the game's context and narrative.

As the player continues, the game decides to throw some mind-boggling occurrences designed to mess with the player's perception. The mannequins themselves are a recurring symbol representing the message that "killing is harmless", however, this particular part of the game acts as a good representation of perception and how it is unique to an individual. Let's use this instance to highlight the four steps of perception. (WARNING: This video contains violence and mature language. Viewer discretion is advised.)
